If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. – Colossians 3:1-4 (NKJV)
Seeking “those things which are above” is a challenge for me daily. I’m preoccupied with the clutter in my life. Clutter that begs to distract me and get me off course. Just like that layer of dust that returns to my blinds the day after I’ve cleaned them; clutter always seems to come back around.
I can organize my clutter; schedule a time in my planner to deal with my clutter; or just ignore it and live in denial of it’s existence.
Sometimes I even find it comforting to obsess on another’s clutter to avoid dealing with my own. When I get caught up in this whirlwind of stuff, I’m not seeking those things above, I’m dwelling on those things around me. In this third poem, I’m reminded to redirect my focus longingly upward!
