Playing in Gullies

When I was a little girl, I spent my afternoons playing outside, exploring in the woods behind my house. My favorite spot was a tree-lined gully. I weaved in and out of trees sprouting from the slopes of the gully. The gully floor consisted of loosened dirt from the numerous draining fields from a Louisiana summer rain. I would push the dirt with a stick and sculpt out floor plan lines. I carved out my dream home with a stick in that soil. One day I’d be settled.

I think I’ve lived most of my life in gullies, susceptible to flash floods that knock me down from time to time. It’s time to walk away from my gully!
