Pondering Proverbs 1:1-6

I’m a month behind. I intended to begin at the first of the year. But a month behind is better than not starting at all. I’m pondering Proverbs 1:1-6. I’m not going to provide the passage here on the blog. I think nothing can replace the intimacy of reading a passage in your own Bible. The crispness of the page in your preferred version that wets your appetite. The New King James Version is mine. I think it is poetically simplistic. So pull yours out, devour the words, then ponder along with me.

Wisdom, knowledge, understanding…I want it all. I don’t want to fill my mind with useless junk, facts and figures. I don’t need another ten step plan to success that I won’t follow. God gave us the ten commandments and look how we as individuals follow those. No, now I see I require something more than just head knowledge. I need the Holy Spirit for the discernment as the proverb says “…to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles.” Proverbs 1:6 (NKJV) I long for discernment to evaluate each choice presented to me and chose the one most beneficial.

Christ comforts his disciples in saying, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.” John 14:16-19 (NASB) According to this beautiful passage in John, the Holy Spirit is the guide to discernment.

But how do we get the Holy Spirit? Now we are diving into an area, I’m not even sure I know the height or depth of. Lord, I pray that You will reveal to each person pondering, the fundamentals for receiving the Holy Spirit through Your Word. In Jesus Christ name, Amen
