What Can I Do?

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. –James 5:13-18 New King James Version

This is the second poem I’m sharing from my “Granny’s Poem Series.” She did indeed leave behind a legacy for intercession. I always felt when I brought her a concern, she fervently prayed on my behalf.

What Can I Do?

What can I do for the world today?
I ask that question as I pray
As I pray for the world, I pray for you
Hoping God will show me what I can do.

What can I do for the world today?
One thing I know is I can pray.
There are so many things to be done.
Lord, do you think I’m the one?

What can I do for the world today?
For what dear Lord should I pray?
Pray for the lonely, the sick and the sad.
For in this world so many feel bad.

What can I do for the world today?
Ask food for the hungry when I pray.
So many people need to be fed
And there are some who need a bed.
What can I do for the world today?
Look around you at work or at play
God says clothe the naked and visit the sick
Give help to all those in conflict.

What can I do for the world today?
Draw closer to God and continue to pray
Many are wandering in darkness and sin
Pray they will open their hearts and let God in.

What can I do for the world today?
I can wait on the Lord to show me the way.
I can show forth God’s glory in my life
And work with Him to end world strife.

About world needs I continue to wonder?
And then my mind begins to ponder,
This is what I can do for the world today.
I can smile and be happy and always pray.
