Marvin George Wright – On This Date in 1913

The Old House
On this date, the 7th of August, in 1913, our maternal great-uncle Marvin George was born to parents John E. Wright and Gracie Pierce in Manifest, Louisiana.
Marvin was one of our Granny Dee’s younger brothers.
Fun Tidbit:

I found this photograph while looking through some of our Granny’s old pictures. It had “The Old House” by Marvin Wright written on the back. I assume this is the first house built on the Wright’s home place in Manifest, Louisiana.
My dad, Marvin Wright, always enjoyed working with wood. He built several pieces of furniture for our home while we were growing up. I remember the second house, which is pictured here that he and his brother Melton built for their mother and father. It was right next to the first. They also had an outhouse and a barn on their 75 acres of land on which they grew sugar cane, and made syrup which they sold for cash They got water from a deep well. Piped in water came later on.
Hi Brenda, I had forgotten that they grew sugar cane. I was thinking about that old well the other day. Great to hear from you. Love, Emily (Nelda’s youngest daughter)
