If out of evaporated milk, use 1 1/2 cups of whole milk simmered down to 2/3 cup for every 5 ounce can of evaporated milk needed. Note: Make sure to watch carefully while heating milk, whisking occasionally to eliminate scorching. Evaporation takes about 15 minutes when warmed on medium to low heat.
If out of cake flour, use 1 cup all-purpose flour, minus 2 tablespoons of flour and replacing it with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch for every 1 cup cake flour needed. Sift together before adding before adding to other ingredients in recipe.
If out of semi-sweet chocolate chips, use 3 tablespoons cocoa powder with 1 tablespoon coconut oil and 3 tablespoons raw sugar for every 1 ounce semi-sweet chocolate chips needed.
If out of tomato sauce, use 3/4 cup tomato paste with 1 cup water for every 2 cups tomato sauce needed.
If the washer is on the fritz, just add detergent and hand wash garments in a sink, rinse and throw in a salad spinner before drying.
If out of self rising flour, use 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder plus 1/4 teaspoons salt for every 1 cup self-rising flour needed.
If out of buttermilk, use 1 cup milk plus 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice for every 1 cup of buttermilk needed.
If out of unsweetened chocolate, use 3 tablespoons cocoa with 1 tablespoon butter for every 1 square for unsweetened chocolate needed.
If out of self rising cornmeal, use 1 cup cornmeal with 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar and 3/4 teaspoon baking soda for every 1 cup of self rising cornmeal needed.
If out of powdered sugar, use 1 cup raw sugar with 1 teaspoon cornstarch ground fine in a blender for every 1 cup of powdered sugar needed.
